First Polish King’s Coronation Millennium
This year marks the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of Bolesław Chrobry (Boleslaus the Brave) – the first King of Poland. In 1025, after years of efforts to consolidate his power and strengthen Poland’s position on the international stage, Chrobry crowned himself, symbolizing the peak of his achievements. This event was of great significance – it raised the state’s status, solidified its independence, and placed Poland on the map of European monarchies.
The thousandth anniversary of the coronation is especially significant for the region of Wielkopolska (Greater Poland). It was in Gniezno that Boleslaus was crowned and in Poznań that he was buried, just a few months after his coronation. No wonder this region is called the cradle of Poland!
The anniversary of Bolesław Chrobry is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the origins of the Polish state and life in early medieval settlements. The best way to experience this fascinating history is by taking a guided tour through Gniezno and Poznań, where you can explore the most significant places, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past, and discover the stories of the first Polish rulers. We warmly invite you to visit Poznań and Gniezno!
On the occasion of this extraordinary anniversary, many events have been planned in Greater Poland to commemorate the coronation. In Poznań and Gniezno, historical reenactments, medieval music concerts, and special exhibitions about Bolesław Chrobry will take place this year. It is worth keeping an eye on the event schedule, as many attractions have been prepared for both history enthusiasts and families with children.
