Malta Lake
Constructed in 1952, this 2 km long man-made reservoir offers a variety of recreational activities. Serving as a regatta course and a popular leisure spot, the lake caters to all interests. Visitors can enjoy a ski slope, formerly open year-round including summers, the Malta Thermal Baths Aquapark, cycle paths, a summer toboggan run, rope parks, mini-golf, and more. The Park Railway Maltanka, a narrow-gauge railway, offers scenic rides along the lake to the New Zoo, Poland’s second largest.
Due to its artificial nature, the lake requires regular cleaning. Every four years, the reservoir is drained and the lakebed undergoes maintenance. Interestingly, caught fish from the lake sometimes find their way onto the plates of the zoo residents – a testament to waste reduction efforts in Poznań!
