My name is Katarzyna Tymek and I have been a licensed city guide since 2009. I organise and guide tours of Poznan and the Piast Route – the kind of tours I would like to take part in myself. I want a walk around the city with me to be a pleasure and for my guests to remember the images and stories of the tour. I love anecdotes – they are the ones to remember. I try to tailor the content and programme of the tour to specific groups and people – something different will be heard from me by a school group and something different by company employees on a team-building walk.

Citadel Park

Citadel Park

Originally established in the 19th century as Fort Winiary, the Citadel stands as a testament to Poznań’s history. Once Europe’s largest artillery fort, it now sprawls as the city’s largest park. Despite its wartime destruction and subsequent near-demolition, remnants of the fortifications are scarce across its 100-hectare expanse. However, the Citadel abounds with other attractions.

Housed within the former Military Laboratory, the Armaments Museum beckons enthusiasts of tanks, planes, and howitzers. Alongside, numerous flowerbeds and outdoor sculptures, including Magdalena Abakanowicz’s renowned “Unrecognised” installation, offer picturesque spots for photography. For relaxation, the Rosarium boasts a thousand roses of varying species and hues, while the Umberto restaurant provides a tranquil setting among flowers, complete with hammocks.

For the more active visitor, two outdoor gyms and ample space for football, badminton, and other activities await. The park frequently hosts sports events, concerts, and shows, such as the Uhlan Days and the Passion Play, drawing crowds from far and wide.
